Les Feuilles Mortes

The leaves have finally started changing color in a major way here in Chicago so I figured it was about time for a new seasonally-appropriate masthead as you loyal Pug Slopers have come to expect.

I was finally able to appease Sid after his “Poop Strike” on Halloween, but it took a large quantity of his favorite treats. We’re talking a steady flow of apple chunks, peanut butter, baby carrots, and venison jerky. I think I finally got him back on my side (for how long, I do not know).

We ventured out to the park for Sid’s early morning stroll and snapped a few photos while we were there. The colors were amazing.

Sid loved rummaging through the fallen leaves. I suppose they either smelled really interesting or he thought they might be hiding some giant stockpile of treats underneath.

So what do you think of the new masthead?

A Pop of Color?

I thought the cooler fall weather was what prompted Sid to wear a scarf the other day, but he said it was to add a “pop of color” to his harness.

He’s been watching a lot of What Not To Wear reruns and I think Stacy and Clinton have been putting ideas into his little pug brain.

Are any of you wearing scarves to stay warm this fall? Or just to add a pop of color?

P.S. If you haven’t had a chance to sign the petition to allow pets in carriers aboard Metra trains, please consider signing this weekend. Thank you for your support and have a wonderful weekend!

Struttin’

Cashew Nut

I’m not sure if it was in response to Sid’s last post, but the weather certainly seems to have fixed itself this week. It’s been nice and cool – perfect weather for the flat-faced. We’ve been able to get over to the park every day. While this means the flow of Sid’s “pity toys” has stopped, I think he’s genuinely excited to go to the park. In fact, whenever we leave the apartment now, he only lets me turn in one direction – TOWARD THE PARK.

We’ve been meeting a bunch of new friends there – both the four-legged and two-legged variety. Sid’s even reached out of his comfort zone and has been interacting with non-pugs – including a “Tree Walking Coonhound”. Yeah, I know it sounds like I just made that up but it really is an actual dog breed!

Hopefully this weekend we’ll get a chance to take some photos of Sid hanging out with some of his pals. That is of course if he ever decides to get out of bed.

Um, summer? Is that you?

AHOY THERE!

Man, this past week just flew by. I blame it on the rain the AWESOME weather we’ve been having here in the lovely Pug Slope neighborhood on Planet Cool Sid.

I know I’m like allergic to all this nature and blooming stuff, but the flowers are actually so bright and colorful that it’s almost worth the extra itchiness. I was a bit bummed to find out that the flowers don’t taste as good as they look.

There’s also all these delectable new smells. My nose has been working overtime.

There are tons of new dogs out at the park that I’ve never seen or sniffed before…including MORE PUGS!

Yep. I’m ready for summer. Get me to a pool.

Baseball Fever

Hope you all had a relaxing FLAT PUG WEEKEND!

I know Sid mentioned in his last post that he was beat from all the activity last week. Well, today’s video will provide further explanation as to his strong desire to remain an F.P. all weekend long…

Even though Sid is quite an athletic pug (I’ve come to accept that my boy is a “jock”), I was still shocked to find him utterly obsessed with baseball. I mean, I guess it is the “American Pastime” and everything, but he’s usually not interested in playing with a ball unless it’s stuffed with peanut butter or salmon treats. Boy was I wrong!

I think if we keep up training, he may be ready for the majors some day!

Winnemac Park Pug Pack

Over the winter, I noticed a severe shortage in the number of pugs in our neighborhood. There were a lot of dogs that came to the park regularly but Sid was always the lone pug.

Well, that all changed once the weather started getting warmer.

Pugs have been heading to the park in droves and Sid has been making some local pug friends. For those that have trouble telling all the curly tails apart – including me – Sid is the one in the black harness.

A bunch of the local pugs are actually pairs – I guess you can’t have too much of a good thing!

I wish I had gotten  a photo of each pug individually but they were all constantly in motion. Also, whenever pugs get in groups, they all seem to want to have their butts facing the camera (I guess they think it’s hilarious – sorta like their version of a photo-bomb).

Let’s see if I can remember all the names of the neighborhood pugs that we’ve met so far (with a little help from the note I keep in my phone…shhh don’t tell anyone my secret):

  • Charles (pictured above)
  • Spencer & Armani
  • Gigi
  • Buddy & Sandy
  • Murray & Leo

Hopefully we’ll run into all of them again soon!
